Reliance Jio Infocomm is making off-net domestic voice calls free from January 1, as interconnect usage charges (IUC) on such services is ending. On-net domestic voice calls have always been free on the Jio network.
This is as per directions of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Bill and Keep regime being implemented in the country from January 1, 2021, thereby ending IUC for all domestic voice calls.
Over the last one year or so, Reliance Jio was charging customers 6 paise per minute for voice calls made to rival phone networks, but compensated subscribers by giving free data of equal value.
As a background, it can be recalled that in September 2019, when TRAI extended the timeline for implementation of the Bill & Keep regime beyond January 1 2020, Jio had to start charging its customers for off-net voice calls, at a rate exactly equivalent to the applicable IUC charge.
While doing so, Jio had assured its users that this charge would continue only till the time TRAI abolished IUC charges.
"Today, Jio has delivered on that promise and made off-net voice calls free again," the company said in a press release.
Jio added that it stands firm on its commitment to make the common Indian the beneficiary of advanced technologies like VoLTE.
Reliance Jio added overall 2.22 million new mobile customers, taking its total subscriber base to 406.3 million during October. In the wireline segment, Reliance Jio added the most subscribers at 2,45,912.

Samsung Galaxy S21 leaks are coming thick and fast, but this latest one is, if true, certainly disappointing, with popular leaker Ishan Agarwal claiming that there will be no charger or earphones included with the upcoming handset in the UK.
Instead, according to Agarwal, the Samsung Galaxy S21 will only come with a USB-C cable. While this new leak only concerns the UK, we’ve also seen hints that in other countries, such as Brazil, the Galaxy S21 will ship without headphones and a charger.
It seems, then, that Samsung is following Apple’s footsteps, despite the company initially mocking the iPhone maker for not including a charger or headphones with its latest iPhone 12 devices.

Agarwal also confirmed a 2,400 x 1,080 FHD+ resolution for the display, and the MySmartPrice website also quoted Agarwal as confirming the Galaxy S21 launch date as January 14, 2021.
So, should we give up hope of getting a charger and headphones with the Galaxy S21? Perhaps not. First, despite Agarwal’s reputation, these rumors are still unconfirmed, and until Samsung officially reveals the Galaxy S21, and what comes in the box, we wouldn’t get too downbeat.
Also, the tweet Agarwal posted that claimed there would be no charger or earphones included with the Galaxy S21 in the UK was deleted (GSMArena managed to take a screenshot of it, however), which could mean the tipster got further information that contradicted the leak, or otherwise lost confidence in their information.
It’s looking increasingly likely that Samsung will show off the Galaxy S21 at an event on January 14, so hopefully we won’t have too long to wait to find out what will be coming with the company’s latest flagship smartphone.
We had earlier reported that Samsung’s large store in India is already accepting pre-orders for the upcoming phone with a tentative global launch date of January 14. Now a leaked invite not only hints at the presence of a new colourway but also suggests that the launch is impending.
However, another report hinted at a January 29 launch date!
But now, going by a tweet shared by Ishan Agarwal, who has been fairly accurate with his leaks in the past, the phone flagship series from Samsung will be unveiled on January 14 and the live stream of the Unpacked event may start at 3 p.m. GMT or 8.30 p.m. IST.

Though the launch invite shared by Ishan does not reveal the launch date nor does it confirm any other detail about the device, Samsung also has not made any official announcement yet. It is likely that the South Korean company may announce the launch date officially in the first week of January when the festive mood across the globe gets over.
Samsung Galaxy S21 series: Key Specifications
When it comes to the specifications, there is hardly anything left for us to guess. Thanks to the barrage of leaks almost everything is already available in the public forum. And while this is extremely disappointing, this is not an isolated case. Regardless, what we already know is that the Galaxy S21 series will comprise three different variants – the vanilla Galaxy S21, the Galaxy S21 Plus and the fully-loaded top-end variant will be called S21 Ultra.
Thanks to the leaks, we already know that the S21 series will bring forth a new design language apart from at least one new Purple hue. The phones will also come with a new rear camera design where the camera bump melts into the body of the phone on one side.
The Galaxy S21 may be the smallest of the three devices sporting a 6.21-inches flat display while the Galaxy S21 Plus may come with a 6.7-inch panel. Both the displays are expected to be Infinity-O Full HD+ Dynamic AMOLED displays along with 2,400 x 1080 pixels resolution with Gorilla Glass Victus protection.
2020 is ending and so is another Google product. Google Cloud Print will no longer be supported by the platform from Friday, December 31.
The function was created to support a printing framework from ChromeOS when it launched. This cloud based printing companion made it possible for those using ChromeOS to print, but also required printers to be cloud ready which wasn't always the case.
In 2010 when it launched, not all printers could connect to the internet, making this a bit of a pain for those who had hopped on the ChromeOS bandwagon.
Since most people weren't willing to buy a new printer to use this service, Google quickly gave ChromeOS its own printing service that could work on a local network.
This made Google Cloud, their quick patch solution, obsolete.
Google announced last year it was taking the plunge to shut down this service as there are very few who still use it. The time has finally come, with Google recommending those last stragglers switch to printing to ChromeOS devices or use another OS's own printing structure.

A new leak suggests that Nvidia is preparing to launch mobile versions of its RTX 3080, RTX 3070 and RTX 3060 graphics cards, with these new mobile GPUs powering high-end gaming laptops from the beginning of 2021.
The leak, discovered by Twitter user @momomo_us, was from Skikk, a gaming PC maker from the Netherlands, which in a webpage (that has since been removed) apparently listed several laptops running on Nvidia’s as yet unannounced mobile RTX 3000 series GPUs.
The laptops in question came with either an Nvidia RTX 3060 with 6GB of GDDR6 memory, an Nvidia RTX 3070 Max-Q with 8GB of GDDR6 memory, and an RTX 3080 Max-Q with 16GB of GDDR6.
New laptop GPUs
What’s interesting about this leak is that at the moment, Nvidia’s RTX 2000 series are the latest GPUs available in laptops, with the RTX 2080 currently being the most powerful graphics card you can get in a laptop.
However, with Nvidia launching its RTX 3000 series of graphics cards for desktop PCs a few months ago, it was only a matter of time before mobile versions of these GPUs were announced for gaming laptops, with CES 2021 (which happens at the beginning of January) being the most likely event where Nvidia will make an announcement.
So, this leak isn’t a huge surprise, but, if accurate, does give us an idea of what kind of spec these new mobile GPUs will use.
First, it appears that these mobile GPUs will use GDDR6 memory, not GDDR6X memory found in the desktop variants. This, along with different memory buses for the GPUs, suggests that these will be cut-down versions of the RTX 3000 series using different chips to the desktop versions.
Because of thermal and battery considerations in gaming laptops (which are thinner than desktop PCs), it makes sense that these mobile GPUs are lower powered to prevent them getting too hot, and depleting battery life too fast.
It seems like to offset this a bit, Nvidia is boosting the amount of memory on the mobile RTX 3080 to 16GB, compared to the 10GB of faster GDDR6X memory on the desktop version.
We should point out that this leak is far from confirmed, and the original page has been taken down. Still, we do expect to see RTX 3000-powered gaming laptops at some point in 2021, and these will hopefully offer a big leap in performance for the best gaming laptops on the planet.
When Windows 10 was released in 2015 Microsoft made a major push for the new software by allowing Windows 7 users to upgrade for free.
This clever marketing promo was only meant to last one year but it seems it has yet to be disabled. This meant that if you wanted to do the upgrade but were worried you would have to pay the full price you can actually still get away with it for free.
A user on Reddit claiming to be a Microsoft employee first brought attention to this loophole before others tested it out, proving it's still working.
The only condition is that you need to have a legitimate download of Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, with a certified product key.
Although Windows 10 has had many pitfalls with users complaining endlessly since it arrived, operating on an older system means you're probably lagging behind as fewer updates are pushed by the company.
If you're keen to move on to the much improved Windows 10 (with all new problems and quirks) then this is a great opportunity to take advantage of while it's still around.
How to upgrade
Head to Windows 10 download page and click on ‘Download tool now’.
Open Media Creation Tool and select ‘Upgrade this PC now’ and 'accept'.
Choose the upgrade option where you keep your files and information.
After the installation completes, connect your device to the internet and open Windows Update > Activation.
Click on the ‘Activate’ button if required and your PC will be activated with a digital license after it establishes a secure connection to Microsoft servers.
If you’re unable to obtain the license, you can also enter your Windows 7 product key and manually activate the operating system.

This ban in one State, and kosher in another, is what is worrying the industry. "We desire clearer and transparent laws that do not have room for ambiguity," says Manav Sethi, Global Chief Marketing Officer, Octro Inc, in an exclusive chat with TechRadar India.
He adds predictable regulatory regime will help the companies to know where they stand and also help in scalable investments in the gaming startup industry. "These investments in gaming startups are good for economy at large and for entire internet universe."
"We are committed to building a safe ecosystem and addressing challenges like irresponsible gaming and fraud".
Octro is of course the largest mobile gaming company in India with games like Teen Patti, Indian Rummy and Tambola being amongst the top ten apps across Apple iOS, Google Play, and Windows Phone 8 platforms.
Manav Sethi said companies like his are interested in creating an ecosystem that is safe and secure at multiple levels. "We have some stringent guidelines in place at Octro," he said.
But the general feeling in India is through online gaming, innocent people, mainly youngsters, are being cheated. And in a few case, they are also alleged to have been pushed to suicide.
There are many public interest litigations in many Indian courts against online games claiming that "they cause behavioural and mental changes, prevent other hobbies, lead to poor academic performance, lethargic nature leading to weight gain. Gaming addiction can slow down brain growth and negatively affects eyesight and also results in insomnia."
But Manav countered that by saying: "We are committed to building a safe ecosystem and addressing challenges like irresponsible gaming and fraud." He asserted that legalised online gaming set-up will help encourage improve a reliable revenue channel for governments.
Greys in laws governing gaming platforms
Manav alluded to the greys in the legal framework in India for the gaming industry.
The Indian online gaming industry is projected to become a one billion dollar industry by 2021. It is also becoming an important source of social engagement and revenue generation.
As India is a mobile-first country, more than 90% of online gamers play games on their phones. In 2019, around 5.6 billion mobile gaming apps were downloaded in India – the highest in the world and representing nearly 13% of gaming apps globally.
But the legality of fantasy sports and online card games in India is dependent on whether the game qualifies as a 'game of skill' or a 'game of chance'. Games of chance fall under the ambit of gambling and are thereby restricted by State gambling laws. However, games involving considerable and substantial degree of skill (mathematically, more than 50%) fall outside the scope of gambling laws and hence are legal in India.
But this 'games of skill' argument is what has made courts to allow horse racing and card games such as rummy and poker so far. But when some State governments are banning them in one place, and allowing in other places, there is bound to be confusion. In any case, the geographical restriction for online games is not effective.
That is what companies like Octro are fighting against.

Manav and his company feel that banning the array of opportunities that skill-based games bring to the country is not right. "There is a need to formulate or introduce robust regulations for licensing regime to make sure transparent online activities are monitored," he said.
Luckily for Octro and other gaming companies, Niti Aayog, Indian government's policy think-tank, has recommended the setting up of a single self-regulatory body for online fantasy sports in India. Its draft report seems to suggest bringing in uniformity in terms of operating standards.
Octro has 200+ million users
It is games like Tambola that Octro hopes to take it across the globe and make it popular worldwide.

With almost 200+ million users, Octro is among the top echelons of the gaming industry in India. Its Teen Patti is a big draw, and has over 150 million users. Rummy is another card game in its stable that has over 35 million user base (both social and real money variations).
Manav said that Octro’s Tambola app is another popular game. It has seen over 50 per cent growth in user base. It has had over a million plus installs.
Soccer battles is another Octro game that is gaining traction now.
It is games like these that Manav hopes to take it across the globe and make it popular worldwide.
"We want to create more global IPs that can be taken to 200 markets and can be localised in 20 languages," he added.
Among others, Octro is funded by Sequoia Capital that invested $15 million in 2014. Octro's revenue stream is third-party advertisers and in-app products sales, the company is streamlining it further to improve its bottom-line.
